What do they mean by "Daily Reader"

I am pretty sure I'll be picking up a PRS-900 in the early part of next year (I hope) - I need to try one out at a store first though, in the mean time I'm doing as much research as I can and one of the questions I've got is, what do they mean by "Daily Reader"?

From the sound of it, and from what others have said here, it sounds as if there will some sort of daily content you can download or that gets sent to your reader automatically. Does anyone have any sort of definitive answer on that? I'm hoping it is something you can set up in your Sony account and get things automatically downloaded to you every day whether it is newspapers, magazines, blogs, RSS feeds, aggregates, etc. That would be great and I'd even be willing to pay just for the convenience of it. I know most of that can be done in Calibre but the simplicity of just turning on your reader and having all of that become available while you're pouring your coffee in the morning would be awesome!

And if no one knows we can turn this into our wish list!

You are correct with your assessment. Like the name implies, you will be able to open your device with your coffee and have your daily periodicals loaded and ready for your reading. A Kindle works in a similar manner.

Awesome, thanks dieterpops. Any idea what sort of content it will include? I'm assuming newspapers and magazines definitely, and hoping for aggregates and RSS feeds as well as blogs.

Now I just need to get my hands on one in a few weeks and try it out.

The lack of direct downloads has been perceived a competitive advantage of the Kindle over Sony Readers. The Daily Edition is meant to even the playing field.

I'm under the impression that it's the name of the device, just like the prs600 is the "Touch" and the prs300 is the "Pocket".

Quillaja, I think you are perfectly right. Probably, Sony suffers that other brands would call their readers with 'names' (Kindle, iRex, nook, etc.) which is good for general acceptance as an 'object' (think iPod) rather than a technical appliance, and their marketing team tries to move away from the 'device reference' (e.g. PRS-600) towards more user-friendly names (Pocket, Touch or Daily).

Hmm, I hadn't thought of that option - that it is simply the name with no other connotations intended. I hope not though, I really like the idea of subscribing to content and having it automatically delivered.

I want the Press Display Press Reader to work on this Sony Reader.

Also have wireless content work on it.

Then I will jump.
