When Will All Content Be Available In UK?

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if there is any news at all as to when all the US content will be available in the UK? Will it definitely happen? I was planning on a long session of Stephen King and Richard Dawkins books, but neither of these writers are available here...Now I don't know whether to even get a Kindle...

Is it just a matter of time, or might it never happen?

Well, I"m not on the "inside" track, but I can' imagine Amazon no biting at the bit to get books available for download there. The money to be made is huge.

I can definitely understand your frustration. Its got to be a problem on the publishers/copyright end.

Unfortunately, the current situation for the Kindle owner outside the USA is that we have access to the poorest selection of "mainstream" commercial eBooks of any major device on the market. Pick pretty much any well-known author and you're told "not available" if you live outside the US.

You're current far, far better off buying an ePub-supporting device rather than a Sony in terms of book selection.

Hopefully this will change but, as things stand, I honestly could not recommend the Kindle to anyone outside the US who wants to buy "best sellers".

Did you mean rather than a sony there?

You have to assume that they will improve things as they go along because it is also in their own best interests to do so, but you do have to think they could have done better to start with given that some books are out as an ePub and in the american kindle store and not in an international one.

Sorry, I meant you're better off with an ePub device such as a Sony (or, indeed, many other devices which support ePub) rather than a Kindle. Apologies for the confusion.

Those comfortable with the process and ethics can buy epub format books, strip the DRM, convert to MOBI, and then transfer to the kindle.
