BeBook page turning
Please forgive me if this is old hat.
I am using the latest Mybebook.com firmware ("21th September"). I have another 6" reader I don't like, but it does turn pages faster. My BeBook seems to usually take two seconds, unless I do rapid single pages when it seems faster. All my files have been tried in subdirectories with no files in root on both SD and built-in memory. I know that BeBook uses an older 200 MHz processor, but BeBook Mini has the newer 400 MHz one, and is reported as only marginally faster. I find the BeBook behaviour odd, as follows (seems the same on DRM'd epub, PDF, mobi, rtf and FB2). The green activity light shows as the page button is pushed, but it then goes out for almost a second, and then the activity light comes on again as the refresh takes place on the new page. If I push the button more quickly, without reading, I can get turns in about 1 second. I suspect that the processor is being suspended very quickly after the refresh and that it takes nearly one second to re-activate after the wake-up signal from the button. What I hope is that the suspend can be configurably delayed to read a page. Does anyone know about this? I would prefer to lose some battery life, as I sometimes get through a page fairly quickly. Also, am I missing something? Can this be improved without (even with) a change in the firmware? Richard |

Press the page turn button when you start the last or last but one line.

Thanks, Stormchild. That had already occurred to me.
I'm hoping for a way to make the machine work a little quicker, and from an electronic point of view, I think it ought to be possible. Does anyone know about the ECO Reader firmware? Another thread here says it turns pages in about one second, and it seems, like the latest ones from BeBook, to do Adobe ADE. Richard |

I suggest trying the EZ Reader firmware from here. It has Adobe Digital Editions.
I don't know if it will have the long page turn issue for the 6" (Hanlin V3) or not, since I run OpenInkPot on mine. Earlier versions on the Pocket Pro (Hanlin V5, BeBook Mini) did have the slow down you describe and it was apparently fixed in more recent firmwares. |

With the Bebook 1, I had the timing down to perfection. I never noticed how long a page turn was. My Mini, however, is lightening fast and I am struggling. I keep missing the last line.
![]() I doubt using any other firmware will change anything, they all use pretty much the same parsers. I can't comment on OI as I have never felt the need to try it. |

I just loaded the EZReader firmware from 28 October.
It isn't completely different but I think it's a bit quicker. There seem to be more circumstances where it's faster like directory changes and some page turns. Interesting that Stormchild sees the Mini as lightning fast. It sounds like the 400 MHz processor makes a big difference. Many thanks, Richard |

I think the Mini's speed has more to do with the new screen controller than with the processor speed. But it is indeed much faster than the BeBook 1!

The page turn never really bothered me until I bought some Ectaco jetbooks as presents.
Because it uses a tft screen rather than e-ink it is really fast, in fact the first few times I tried it I didn`t think I had turned the page as there was no screen flicker ![]() When I got back to the be-book the page turn bothered me but now I`m used to it again. |
