Hi everyone
I have been reading these forums for about 6 months and finally decided to sign up. I had a used Sony PRS-500 that I purchased from a friend. Unfortunately, I dropped it and it landed "wrong" and cracked the screen. I had not purchased any books from Sony for it (my friend was nice enough to leave the books he had on it and I was reading those). I have been without a reader now for several months and I am currently thinking about getting the nook (although probably not for a couple of months due to financial issues).
I'm personally not impressed with the Kindle (all versions). I don't like its aesthetics or being locked into Amazon. I like the iRex DR1000 (I would like to have a reader that would be good for normal PDF's) but it is expensive and has had issues with power management. Unfortunately, the power issue is a re-occurring issue for iRex so I do not have much hope for the upcoming 800. If Sony was not having glare issues with their readers with touch screens (not a big issue for some people but a huge issue for others) I would probably get a Sony 600. I would get the version without a touch screen but I am not willing to go below a 6" screen. Several other readers I have researched look okay and support a wide range of formats but don't support any DRM. Like most people I have seen post on the forums, I don't like DRM; however, I do not want to unnecessarily limit myself by not having a reader that supports some form of DRM (preferably a popular, standard one) and the more DRM types that are supported the better. I would prefer support for as wide a selection of file formats as well, but converting non DRM files does not seem to be that big a deal (unless it is PDF). So that brings me to the nook. Sorry for the long explanation, See you on the boards ![]() |

Welcome MobileRead, rwizard.
While there is no perfect device on the market yet, isn't it nice we can choose the one that fits our needs? Enjoy the forums. |
