Demy - Why isn't THIS an ereader?

From the B&N website:

The Demy™, the world's first touchscreen, kitchen-safe digital recipe reader, is a tool no serious home cook can afford to be without. With the capacity to store up to 2,500 recipes, a host of convenient features, a small footprint, and the ability to withstand spills and accidents, the Demy instantly gives you all the support you need to turn out one great dish after another, with a minimum of fuss.

The Demy includes a high-resolution 7-inch <color> touchscreen with an intuitive graphical navigation interface and easily adjustable font size. The Demy only takes up as much space as a 5 x 7 card, and you can stand it on its end -- automatically flipping the screen -- so that it only takes up the space of a 3 x 5 card. Other features include three built-in timers, a measurement conversion tool, and a handy list of ingredient substitutions.

Unlike a laptop or a smartphone, the Demy is designed to thrive in the unpredictable and often messy kitchen environment. It offers a splash-resistant design and sturdy plastic exterior that's easy to clean. Spills easily wipe off the sealed touchscreen with a damp cloth.

In addition, the Demy syncs up to your keyingredient.com account when you plug it into the USB port on your computer. At the Key Ingredient web site, you can build your free personal recipe collection by typing in, copying and pasting, import from other sites, or select from over 100,000 tested recipes already posted on the site.

Really, I mean besides being tethered to AC all the time it would make a super ebook reader with additional memory. Price isn't really all that bad either.

I don't know about 'superb.' One of the major advantages of most ebook devices is the e-ink screen. A regular color lcd screen is not as easy on the eyes. OK for recipes, but just like my computer screen, I would not want to spend hours reading novels on it. And who needs color for ebooks anyway? (I'm referring to people who actually read as opposed to looking at pretty pictures.)

I find the ereader screens I've seen to be too lacking in contrast. The background seems greenish to me. On my iPhone, the Kindle app and a couple of others have a sepia setting which I find much more comfortable than either the ereaders or the standard lcd backgrounds & contrasts. So what I think that color will bring is a wider range of contrasts & backgrounds.

Are you the one that left the "review" there?

Bottom line is, any device you can read a book on that works for you is fine.

What it doesn't say is what software it runs. Are we talking about text based recipes, there was also that MiBook thing (iirc) that have video recipes. What formats do the recepies have to be in.. is it some type of proprietary device that side loads from some PC software?

What is the batter life? That is a pretty important stat for an ebook reader device.

It doesn't really say.... perhaps there is more info on it somewhere.

So this may answer some questions:

What is that? I never heard of it. Is it a service you have to pay for?

It looks to be a companion device for that web site and probably runs a proprietary reader software.
