Treo 700p in May/June from Sprint
PalmInfocenter has news of the Palm Treo 700p (PalmOS version) in a Sprint store computer, scheduled for May/June release.

"Previous leaked details about the Treo 700p indicate it will run Palm OS Garnet v5.4.9. It features EVDO high speed data support, a 320x320 pixel display, 1.3 megapixel camera with a 1280x1024 max resolution and 62.8 MB of free RAM."

This is a device I'm personally very much hoping will end up in my pocket this year.

Very nice. If Palm added push e-mail support to its Treo line, it'd be the true Blackberry killer.

Its the data plans that will kill you. Thats why I chose to get a 650 with Sprint's cheap vision package. best bang for the buck.

That's a great point. I'm currently on Verizon and they charge about $50/mo last time I looked for even a slow data plan. Even worse, Verizon charges extravagent and outrageous prices when you go over your allocation. So don't even think about getting pay as you go, or a lower priced Verizon data plan (like the 10meg $25/mo plan) and going over the limit.

As a result, I'm dataplanless on my Verizon Treo. But I was hoping that I could get a 700p with the $15/mo Sprint unltd data plan, even if I have to forego high speed). Is that not going to be available with the 700p?

We're all going to be wanting to know a lot about the Sprint data plans when this 700p comes out! With the 650 a lot of us didn't do our homework and didn't quite end up with what we had hoped for because of the high data plan prices. Great device. Expensive data plans. So this is a really big issue for the consumer. It just ends up being ignored because it's hard to get real facts. It's hard enough figuring out the fees you'll be charged on a typical "free" cell phone!

I may be wrong, but if a Sprint phone can use the EVDO plans, then you must sign up for it. I think if you are in an EVDO area, the phone will pick EVDO over 1XRTT. I am not 100% sure of this however.

Unfortunately, I suppose that the EVDO plan price will not be anywhere close to $15/mo.

Interesting enough..I priced a PPC audiovox 6700 with EvDO and the power vision data plans were $15.00 for unlimited data. Interesting. Looks like something has changed. Nonetheless if you want to tether with another device it is an additional $25.00 + whatever voice plan you choose. Not too bad.

My problem is that I have a special retentions plan that I dont want to lose, basically the jist of it is 4 lines - 750 peak minutes w/ unlimited vision on treo for $90.00/month. That would be hard to match today
