Not to be dumb, but how does that work? Do you purchase the book for $25.51 and then you have $25.51 to spend later? Not sure.

Yep.

You get a $25.51 credit in "Reward Dollars" to your account. Those can be used on checkout later. Just FYI, you can't use Reward Dollars to earn more Reward Dollars.

Exactly. However, at BoB, when you buy that book later using your reward dollars (store credit), you do not get ANY reward dollars on the 2nd book you purchase (at Fictionwise, this is true for very larger percentage rewards, those over 35%, but not for lower rewards). Since BoB uses rewards often for their sale prices, this effectively means you pay full digital list price for the books you buy using rewards dollars.

It's best to consider this a 1/2 price sale in conjunction with another purchase of the same list price, as that's the end effect.

Really? I've found that, for books I've bought, they always have some level of discount and then often have Rewards on top of that. Never seen a book there for full list, although it does look like they're using Rewards more than they used to. Maybe it's just the books we're looking at.

I do somewhat agree with you in that booksonboard I'm finding is typically more expensive than say, the Sony ebookstore. It's taking some work, but I'm searching for title that have the same actual cost (list price less % discount) as something I would have bought from the Sony ebookstore. If you do it that way, and only buy books comparably priced (and not overpriced), then you can maximize the rewards dollars and truly get the Niffenegger book for free.

It's tricky, but also a quiet night, so time is all I've got.

Unfortunately, I've had a credit there for a year. Every book I check, they are much more expensive, as there are no rewards (often that's 1/2 the cost on many I've looked at). Amazon is often cheaper to start with and then FW adds the 15% off for membership, plus a reward. (Obviously, I'm not looking at "free" books, but relatively recent ones). I'll eventually use up the credit, but don't want to run up any more there, as I often find the price to be between 20 and 100 percent higher, unless I want to give them more cash to keep on hand at no interest.

It's a good deal for those of us who can't use the Sony Store though .... I took advantage as I buy tons of stuff from BoB anyway so will easily use the Rewards Credit.
