G'day from Down Unda!

...only kidding, I don't actually speak like that.

Hi guys,

What a gem of a forum this is! I'm in the market for an eReader, and heading off on an overseas trip in three and a half weeks so am pretty keen to lay my hands on one before I go. I'm an avid reader of non fiction (mainly psychology, economics and biographies) and classic lit and crime novels (although I'm weaning myself off those because of too many sleepless nights). I've realised now that my bedroom floor is almost invisible underneath a sea of books in which the one I want is always buried that it's probably time to consolidate. That and I just started reading 'A Suitable Boy' by Vikram Seth which is a veritable house brick of a thing! Looking forward to getting lots of good advice and meeting you all.

Welcome to MR. Good to see the number of us Aussies are increasing here in the forums!!! Have you found an e-reader you're interested in? https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/E-book_Reader_Matrix is a good place to get a comparison of e-readers to see which one might suit your wants/needs.

Yeah...I'm pretty well decided on the Sony PRS 300. Small and can read lots of formats works for me. Just trying to find one now

G'luck, Melbournian. Quite a few of you colinial chaps here -- even some from the Americas, I see. The Oz contingent seems to be a special needs group in some repects (wireless hiccups and geographical restrictions on some titles, etc), but a few of them seem well on top of the minor hitches now and you'll find some generous advice here from them. The EcoBook (under its various brand names) seems especially well quoted. Good to have your company, mate. Best. Neil

Yes...being in the colonies sucketh muchly sometimes...If I had a dollar for every time I'd tried to buy something off Amazon.com (the first Kindle, the second Kindle, the Sony PRS, etc) I would probably have enough to fly over there and buy one in person! Thanks for the warm welcome.

I think ebay is your best bet for a PRS-300, I am unaware of anyone selling them in Australia.

Another device worth looking at is the Astak Pocket Pro. Same size e-ink screen as the PRS-300, but does offer a greater range of formats and a SD card slot - and Astak will ship to Australia. Another big advantage is it ships with a protective cover (great for travelling). Both are great devices, and I am a very happy owner of a Pocket Pro.

Let us know when you get your e-reader and how you go with it. Always good to see e-readers picking up popularity in Australia.

Thanks for the tip Solicitous! It's been hard finding info about eReaders so I haven't heard of the Astak. Will go have a look at it right now though, lots of formats+cover+SD card slot sounds great (I am a huge fan of SD card slots XD).

...dangit...I just bought an Astak. Stupid payday and internet banking accessibleness...lol

B&H Video has the Sony products. Several Australians on this forum, including me, bought from them and were happy with their service.
