Frozen sony prs 505

Hi all, i've just joined this site and wonder if anyone can give me some advice,

i've had my e reader for 10 months and i had to return it in september as after charging it the screen was frozen on "loading"

i received it back promptly but with a rather snotty letter telling me i had downloaded a corrupt file, at the time i hadn't downloaded any books at all!

i've now used it for 3 weeks and downloaded one book from the waterstones site and having just recharged it for the first time since i got it back it now has a frozen screen again, i can't turn it off either,

Waterstones aren't interested, Sony have referred me to sony solutions and they've just said send it back again.

Has anyone else had a similar problem? i'm worried that it will just keep doing this and i'll never be able to enjoy my reader .

thankyou
lindsay

Do a forum search for 'frozen sony', or just look at the similar threads section at the bottom of this page. This has happened a number of times for people and for the most part they've been able to recover their reader.

Thankyou, but i've already done that and followed the things other people have tried and they haven't worked,

i'll send it back again but just worry for the future performance of my reader

I had this exact problem, Lindsay, soon after buying a PRS-505 in June. What I discovered -- with a little help from friends here -- is that the device was fatally undercharged using the USB cable to a PC or laptop ... no matter what the battery charge icon so optimistically said. The USB charger is NOT effective. I got myself a mains charger, did a hard 're-format memory' (during which you will lose all books in the device and have to start again). Since I did that, my 505 has worked like a dream. Good luck. Neil
