New member in Spain

Hi all!

I am interested in the Sony PRS-600. Currently it is not sold here in Spain, but the guy at the local Sony shop says it will be around in "3-4 weeks".

I am interested in the PRS-600 because it looks like a nice piece of kit, and reviews have been good. I plan to use it to read PDF files (coursework and journal articles) as well as books.

One feature I am excited about is accessing Ebooks from Us public libraries. I am an American, originally form the Boston area, and this seems like a great way for me and my kids to have access to English language books without having them shipped (with both the expense and the pollution involved).

Cheers!

Welcome and I hope you enjoy the forum.

By the way, I'm Spanish and I would like to know you Sony store I haven't found anyone where the clerk has told me they're going to get the Sony reader, only Papyre.

Furthermore, can you access to public libraries from Spain? I'm afraid that it isn't possible (they're restricting it). If I'm wrong, please, tell me (a coworker goes to Canada on Friday )

Hi Colombus, Hi Terisa,

I live in Catalunya (Edited - I don't want the guy to get in trouble with Sony). I was as surprised as you. I don't remember the exact conversation, but I asked several times if he was sure. I started asking if they could order it (because it isn't sold here), he said no, but it would be here in "3 weeks, a month". I asked about warranties, if I bought it somewhere else, would they fix it? He said the warranty is with Sony, not the seller, so it didn't matter where I bought it. i asked if he was sure it would be a month, and he sort of agreed without saying anything. I mentioned it wasn't on the website, and asked if it was a rumor, or he heard it from Sony. He waved his hands like he couldn't confirm anything, but at some point he said that yes, 3-4 weeks (maybe he said a month or so, but he didn't say 6 weeks or two months or anything like that). He said it like "van a llegar", as if they were out of stock (which, I noticed, a lot of places are out of stock online).

Anyway, I am thinking of waiting, if I can be sure I can change the interface to English when I get it. If I buy local I get a local place to come back to, and mayb an adapter (? not sure if it is just USB).

Anyway, if November rolls around and it isn't here, I will go back and ask. But it sounded legit.

Cheers,
JP

Hi cassidym!

That is good news. I am pretty sure I can get an account in Boston.

I used to live in McLean, VA, just off Great Falls Road.

Cheers,
JP

Welcome to MobileRead, JP!

There are some beautiful houses along Great Falls Road. I have the 600 (I got it last week) and I love it. There is a huge improvement in the display clarity with the 600 over the 700 and the dictionary look-up is wonderful!

Happy Reading!

My PRS-600 arrived today. I like the looks and the feel of it already. I think its reputation for being too reflective is a bit overblown (although I have a Mac Book, so I may be used to shiny screens). The text clarity is quite nice. I also like the silver more than I thought I would. I haven't had a chance to read much (it is charging), though, but the screen seems very readable in low light.

Wheee!
