New Sony Reader reader here

Hello!
Being a happy new PRS-505 owner I just joined the forum after much lurking. In fact, MobileRead really helped me decide on purchasing the eReader. I have wanted one since last Christmas when my mother-in-law let me use her Kindle. I really liked it and had a tough time deciding between the Kindle2 and Sony. The clearance price and public library capability really swayed me to the Sony. I only wish my local library (Sacramento) had more of a selection but can only expect their catalog to grow.

These devices are like high speed internet and DVRs . . . once you've got it, you can't live without it.

Regards!

San Francisco Public Library will give a card to any resident of CA (although you may have to find your way to one of their branches to get one, so plan ahead for that part), and they have both Adobe Digital Editions & Mobi ebooks.

I keep planning on getting an SFPL card (I work in SF) and not finding time to drop into a library after work.

Welcome, NachoPanza. I feel the same way about my 505. Are you using the Sony software or calibre?

I started with the Sony software and some books from the Sony store and the library, but recently installed calibre and like it. I've only tried it for blogs and newspapers so far, though. Honestly, I'll probably stick with the computer for this kind of content.

Welcome to MR, and that's very true! (Well, the high speed internet, anyway, I don't have a DVR)

I have a Sony 505 also, and love it. Even with the flood of new makes and models being released now, I'm not in a hurry to upgrade any time soon. My Reader suits my needs just fine.

Yes, I thought about waiting even longer to jump on the bandwagon with some nice looking prospects emerging,, but am happy with my choice. In another year when prices are even lower I may look for something new and pass the 505 on to my daughter, who is already clamoring for Reader time.
