Ever Seen An Ad On TV For A Reader?

Just saw an ad for Sony readers on TV! It was on WOIO, the CBS affiliate in Cleveland, OH. Just generic, not showing any of the different styles or features. 'Read hundreds of books on this'....a panel of several 'celebrities' saying something or other...maybe a 30 second piece.

It was the 1st time I've seen any TV ad for a reader....anyone out there seen any?

I thought about that yesterday after seeing that ad for the first time-- I can't remember ever seeing a commercial for any reader before this. (Funny moment-- I heard someone say something like "can I read lots of books on this?" and look up from my Sony Reader Pocket to see-- a Sony Reader Pocket.)

I've been complaining about their lack of marketing since the introduction of the PRS-500. Way to go Sony, good time to push the Daily Reader idea right before release

Might be evidence that they realize finally its necessary to rely on more than "name recognition" to sell their readers. You may have noticed that the public thinks that the Amazon Kindle is only reader out there.

Anyone who has handled both can recognize the feeling of quality in the Sony and "mass market plastic" of the Kindle.

Fortunately the December release of Sony's 3G enabled Reader should up the ante.

Haven't seen the commercial (no TV!) but here's something really interesting. the new Sony Concept - the Flex OLED electronic Reader
looks like exciting things are awaiting for e-readers in the near future!

Holy Schnikes I want OLED reader now! But it'll probably cost more than buying all the books I will ever read in my entire life! And that's not economical at all!

Red face During NCIS on Tuesday ...

We were fast-forwarding through the commercials on Tuesday Night's NCIS when I saw a familiar face ... my sony.

When I stopped it, it had the advertisement with the 4 guys behind the curtain. Gary watched it for a minute then turned and looked at me and asked - Isn't that the thing you have?

OK, now I know I've gone over to the dark side - stopping to watch a commercial!!!

Edit - I just realized that the commercial wasn't described. There was a woman holding a sony reader and asking about it. They whipped open a curtain and revealed 4 men with readers. The last one was a record-winning high speed reader ... who a few seconds later announced he'd just read 300 books or something in just a few seconds. Another guy pitched in and said so did he - the camera pans to the second guy and he blushes and says "not really," then they talk about all the books you can carry.

The Sony ebook reader commercial played here in the States on CBS this afternoon during the National Football League broadcast. First time I've seen it --- nice! A whole lot of people were exposed to it...
