Hello from a Kindle 2 and Nook User
Couldn't pry the Kindle 2 away from my spouse so I got a Nook. Received it yesterday. Just started using Calibre to manage ebook libraries and to convert documents. My initial impression is that both platforms would be a good choice for ebook fans.
The Kindle 2 text to speech is nice if you want to continue with a book while driving - otherwise not used much. Page turns are faster - just a bit. Kindle 2 screen appears a touch smaller than Nook's. The Nook's color touch screen is nice for browsing purchased ebooks - not so much for converted txt or doc files. Touch screen is somewhat insensitive and requires repeated touches to initiate action. Expect this to disappear with future software updates. Tie-breaker: The Nook runs the Android OS vs the Kindle 2 propriatary OS. Expect many ebook applications will be released to run on the Nook that will make this ebook reader the clear choice. Open source applications are driven by user demand - not financial projections as is the case for propriatory systems like Kindle. |

Welcome to mobile read.
Just a slight correction amazon is not running a proprietary OS, it is running under Linux. There are already some excellent software written for the kindle check out the kindle section |
