Some news from a few friends of MobileRead

One of the great pleasures of being associated with a site like MobileRead, is the chance to meet (in the online sense of the word) so many really nice people. So many are members right here posting in the MobileRead forums. But if you don't follow all the talk around the web community associated with mobile devices, you may not have had the chance to see the broader community and what great people are working for Palm and Microsoft and PalmSource/Access, for example. Or how dedicated and extremely generous are almost all of the handheld software developers. Or what a delight the folks are who work at other mobile-related web sites. It's a great group of people with very similar interests and passions, and people are remarkably kind and helpful. We've got a great thing going.

With that in mind, let me mention just a few items that I've been wanting to mention, and which might be of interest:

* Pocket Tunes skins are available for two of my favorite sites...
Palm Addicts, a long time favorite, created and nourished by the incomparable Sammy McLoughlin and his team. And PDA24/7, which is a great site with versions for Palm , Windows Mobile and even others.

* Creative Algorithms and Trip Boss
Trip Boss is one of the top Palm travel software titles, which continues to get better and better with both a recent major version release, and point releases as recent as May 11, 2006.

And there is a new travel web portal now also available. According to CA, it is "a new mobile-friendly portal website, Mobile Travel Aide™, which is geared towards the traveler. The site was originally designed as an assistant to Trip Boss, but can be accessed by any mobile-browser enabled device.

Links on the site include flight status, ground transportation, weather radar, restaurant and sights info, currency rates, mapping and directions. Users can visit mtrvl.com - http://www.mtrvl.com or http://www.mobiletravelaide.com - to access the convenient travel information. We also created a free weblink app for Palm OS users for their launcher that will automatically launch the Mobile Travel Aide website. This application is available for download from our Creative Algorithms' home page, http://www.creativealgorithms.com."

You can find some background information about the team behind the software at the main CA web site, or in this PalmInsider article.

* Club Astraware May-hem Sale, starting 15th May 2006
Alison at Astraware also just dropped a nice note to let me know that they are having a sale that "promises a third or more off a wacky selection of top games.... including Tradewinds, Chuzzle, Mazera, Broken Sword and Bejeweled 2." You have to be a Club Astraware member, but you can join here for free. And be on the lookout because they always seem to have new titles in the works and you never know when one more might just pop out.

There's so much news that we don't always take the time (or have the time) to bombard the site with every little thing that is going on in the mobile device world. But we try our best to get you the best and most important. Especially as related to important and interesting e-book and mobile content. Still, it's good to occasionally be able to provide some links like these every now and then with some miscellaneous topics.
