New TX - Suggestions?

Just got a new TX, after some rather length money-saving. Posting from it now, even. Must say quite nice, and flawless Jpilot/Linux syncing. Very flawless.

Now, I'd like any suggestions anyone have for nice, fun, and/or useful programs, particularly any ones that take advantave of the Wifi. I haven't heavily used a Palm for some months, so I'm looking to heavily throw myself back into things, so to speak.

So, suggestions, please.

And if anyone wants me to test or check anything, just ask. As long as it doesn't involve SD cards (yet - might be able to get one sometime, however), except maybe a 64MB one... If I can get it to work, as it's an old SD card...

Anyway, as I said, the TX is a very nice machine...

Edit: Oh,yeah. The Wifi implementation is very nice. Connects quickly when you need it, disconnects when it's idle. Very nice, and fast.

Lightbulb A couple of suggestions

Well, if you're using linux you'd probably like an SSH client:
TuSSH http://www.tussh.com/

How about PalmVNC?

I'll let the other folks recommend games and particular ebook readers

Already have a free SSH client, called pssh (Google it, as once again, posting from TX ).

I forgot about PalmVNC - thanks for reminding me - I think I may play with it this weekend.

Other than the browser, I don't really use many Wifi apps on my TX, but I have found a few other apps to be quite useful.

Filez and TCPMP are both on my DIA as quick-buttons. They both really need an SD card to be useful, though.

filepc2pda is a far superior way to transfer large files to your TX than hotsync.

There's a program called PalmCommander, which I believe is being given away for free these days. It's similar to Filez, but also has the ability to backup and restore your TX, and edit preferences, and some other stuff.

Plucker for reading web pages when you're on the subway.
Snap for taking screenshots of all the cool apps you've downloaded.

And, if I may be allowed a couple of plugs, SrcEdit is a nice editor which I'm in the middle of adding DIA support to. (If you grab the beta at http://srcedit.brainsware.org/ you can see the latest changes.) Also, the company I work for (Phantom Fiber) produces quite a few wireless casino and sports betting applications, if you enjoy that sort of thing.

I, too, am looking forward to seeing the Wifi apps that people list.

SrcEdit looks nice! Going to try it. I always like text editors with some syntax highlighting...

Unfortunate that I don't have a nice-sized SD card... And my 64 meg one doesn't seem to feel like cooperating with me right now. Locks up (soft reset only, luckily) the T|X when I try open CardInfo to format it, or when I try to use Filez to delete all the old files from it... Next on my 'to-buy' list is a nice large (1gig?) SD card.

Congrats on the new toy! Er, I mean productivity tool.

If you are looking for a smaller memory card, you can get this one cheap (via the deals list on www.tapland.com)...
http://www.buy.com/prod/Viking_256MB.../10335081.html
Probably even cheaper deals are available on eBay.

I've seen 1gig as low as about $35 or $40 after rebate, or on eBay, but you have to keep watch.

I'd be real interested to hear how it goes with PalmVNC 2.0. The web page doesn't inspire a lot of confidence that it's up to date for new devices like T|X or Treo 650, but it does talk about OS5 compatibility.

Just fiddled with it... It works, but is VERY slow... Too slow for me, so I decided against using it... I'll stick to SSH for my remote admin'ing, I think. SSH works well.

Fiddled with my SD card, and got it working. Just needed a clean format, turns out.

So now I can play with PalmPDF. It's nice, but slow. I'll try some more PDFs with it later (just looked at it's readme so far ). Also, copying from a T5 (using FileZ), got the files needed for Drive Mode, and it works like a CHARM for accessing the SD card under Linux. Added a nice, simple UDEV rule, and now have a /dev/txcard symlink to mount.

Also found a nice, fun game, in the style of Breakout, called Prison. Bit of an older game, but fun nonetheless. Also fiddled with VersaMail, and it works nicely for three of my four e-mail accounts (the last being my Gmail account, and the problem is due to Gmail's improper POP3 implementation, only delivering messages *once*, instead of until they're deleted by the client's request). Works pretty well.

SrcEdit is nice, but I think I'll hold off using it too much until I get my hands on some sort of external keyboard, due to the, ah, impracticality of code input using an onscreen keyboard or Graffiti. On the Graffiti note, my last Palm device was a G1 device, so getting used to G2 isn't the easiest thing ever... Especially for the "t" and "f".

Tips: Use the classic Graffiti F, draw the space after L at the end of a word lower than the L and you won't get a T.
