Was in the process of ordering one, then Paypal

I put in the information, had my credit card handy, and saw at the bottom of the screen it wants Paypal.

What happened to the days when one could just plug in the numbers and an expiration date and order something?

Doesn't someone want my money? It's good.

Now I have to look into paypal again, which I am loathe to do.

Now I have to psyche myself up again and try to get in the mood for spending some money.

Hmm, I ordered with a CC. Must be something to do with International orders?

You used to be able to pay by CC using PayPal without setting up an account. Don't know if that's the case anymore.

You can order from 2 sites:
*If is international: http://www.astak.com/ezreader/step1.asp
*If is from US and Canada: http://www.theezreader.com/html/step1.asp

If you are trying to buy from outside US & Canada you can only pay with PayPal AFAIK

Yes, I'm a U.S. citizen (not that that means anything anymore, in my opinion), and now living in Peru.

Dear Don:

Yes, PayPal is for the international shipments only. This is because so many "International Credit Cards" are fradulent. The bad guys always ruin everything for the good guys like you.

The Pay Pal is our only system for processing International Orders and we have no choice. I know you and I like you and know you are a fine person. I just cannot buck the sytem. Remember back, please. At one time we were ONLY going to sell to North America. Then, so many people wrote from France and Spain and Rumania and Peru that I managed to get them to agree to do International and they set up the PayPal. It was that or no International Shipping.

PayPal is a simple and easy thing to do. I do it when I buy online even in the USA. It is common now. Don, I beg your indulgence to use PayPal.

And... don't take MY wife, please!!

Well, sort of. I am not a fan of Pay Pal either but had to open an account to make some purchases. I did successfully pay with my credit card and somehow keep escaping Pay Pal's demand that I link my bank account with my Pay Pal account. That just makes my skin crawl.

I haven't had any issues so far with the link. Easier for my money to go back into my account.

My PayPal is backed up with a credit card and even though they have my account I always place any orders through PayPal back on my credit card anyway.

I have had a paypal account for so long now, and I've only a creditcard registered with them.

I like to use Paypal over my CC, because I feel it's safer. Paypal has gone a long way since its early days as payment method at ebay...

For those who loath the idea of giving their 'personal info' to an internet place like PayPal. (Or for any other reason)

You can go to a bank, purchase a 'gift card' with a visa/mc logo. You can THEN use THAT to open a PayPal acct. If you get a rechargeable card, you can add funds as they dwindle. This protects you (in the event of acct hijacking) to the amount of $ you have on the card. Also protects personal info.
(I did this myself when I opened a 2nd eBay selling acct)

I don't know what other options exist for people overseas but here in Australia you can create a visa debit account - basically an ordinary savings account with a visa number attached. It is good as if there is no money in your savings account your visa transaction gets declined. Kind of good how you just transfer the amount into the account as needed and not worry too much about the card number being used elsewhere, with no funds in it purchases cannot be made.

a paypal acc is very easy to set up, shouldn't be a deterrence from buying PP!

Thumbs down

Beware of periodic bank service fees on those bank Gift cards, that start to eat your balance if not used up within a short period.

In the US,Branded, store gift cards are not allowed to do the fee thing or expire. Just another example of the banking industries clout with law makers to get exemptions.
