Sony Titles
Is there a way to read books purchased from the Sony bookstore? Or can they be "converted"?

Nope, not at this point.
Sony is going to be changing their store over to ePub at some point and those would work on the Astak. It's been said that you'll be able to exchange your LRX books for ePubs when they make the switch, but I can't remember if that was an official statement or wishful thinking on someones part. |

No (can't be read and can't be converted).
However, Sony is switching its entire catalogue to Adobe ePub by the end of the year. So if you already bought some LRX ebooks, Sony will make ePubs available for redownload. If you just want to use the store because of unique content or better prices, this will be possible once they switch to ePub. |

I think that a free program called ABC Amber Sony Converter can convert Sony format to other formats, and then other converters can be used to go to further formats. Sony gives this program away on their ebook reader site. Try Google for it.

Won't convert eBooks with DRM and even if it did, I'd never use it. It loses the formatting and graphics. ABC Amber converters overall are just poor. Calibre can now do some converting of LRF to ePub.

Sony's LRX:
Keep in mind that Sony's LRX is proprietary, DRMd, and has not been cracked. (And probably never will be, since it is going to be abandoned.) Sony's LRF: Non-DRMd files, available here and elsewhere. These can be successfully converted to a variety of formats, in almost all instances, using calibre. (ABC Amber Converter is horrible, in my opinion.) Don |

No, it can't. It deals with LRF files, which are DRM-free, not with the LRX, DRM-protected, files which the Sony Store sells.
