EPUB -> .mobi

I'm looking for a way to convert EPUB files to a format readable on my Kindle2

I'm sure this has been discussed many times before; but all I can find on the subject seems to date back to using tools (pycrypto & python). None of the tools that I was able to locate worked for me.

I'm NOT trying to circumvent the law here, just be able to read a book I've checked out of a library in EPUB format on my kindle. If not for the DRM I would be able to do that. (Calibre)

Is there any DRM software tool that works on the windows platform that helps in this area?

It's really a shame that there has to be this ebook file format war going on; you would think a standard would somehow float to the top and dominate the industry.

You would have to strip the DRM and then use Calibre or Mobipocket Reader to convert that ePub into Mobipocket.

Some months ago, someone announced that they had broken ADE encryptation.
I can't give references on this forum (and I don't have any) and I don't know how well or ill it worked.

For Linux if you do a Google search for MobiDeDRM (sorry I don't have the link anymore), This script is used to strip the DRM from ebook files. I have used it to remove DRM from ebooks I bought from Amazon for my Kindle2 so I could also read them on my Sony Reader. I don't know if there is a version of this script for Windows.

A little correction to the last answer given: MobiDeDRM removes - as the name implies - DRM from MOBI files and not from EPUB. The script can be used on anything that can run a Python interpreter (Windows, Linux, BSD, ...), but won't be of any use in this case.

ADE dedrem and google is your friend. Make sure you follow the instruction to the letter, above all for the python version part- for the opposite move it was a pain until I noticed it.
