Sad news, Patrick Swayze died Monday. He was only 57 years old.

I sent this news to The Loved One with the note, "Well, that came out of nowhere". He thought I was being sarcastic, because apparently Mr. Swayze has been ill for a while. I wasn't - I was surprised. And sad.

Come on you governments of the world, how about you stop killing people with your armies and pump some serious money into curing these awful diseases for a change? How about you stop bailing out bankers and make a serious push on the cure for Cancer and AIDS? How about making sure nobody ever goes hungry or homeless? It's 2009 for God's sake and people are still hungry? People are still dying of diseases? What kind of nonsense is that?

That's so sad. I like his Dirty Dancing movie. I know it's cheesy and kitchy and lovey-dovey or whatever you call it in English, but I watch it every time it's on tv, and it's just soooo part of the 80's!

I'm a big fan of terrible 80's movies that are in fact brilliant My Swayze action triple-header would be Red Dawn, Roadhouse and Next of Kin. Goddamn but those three movies were an integral part of my teenage years. for those three alone, Swayze has a special place in my heart.

The American tabloids were pretty much merciless on him, giving us check-out browsers plenty of pictures of Patrick looking dead-on-his-feet ill, for the past year or two. Won't be too many Americans who won't know he was sick.

Such a shame, I was enjoying the new TV show 'the beast'. His acting in it was VERY good, proving he still had it. I think 'the beast' would have seen him back in some big name movies before long.
