So Anyone in the UK got/seen one?

Well it's launch day.

Just been to Waterstones...

Apparently "Sony has delayed our stock", but they are unsure if this is just the Canary Wharf store, or the entire chain.

They did have the 300 on display.

I decided to save myself £20 and buy from Smith's, so I have to wait until at least the 17th

Mine's just arrived from Waterstones. Had 15% off voucher as well so only cost £217 :-)

First ebook reader for me, so currently looking for some good books from the library.

Cheers

I would be really annoyed if I had "preordered" in store, and the devices hadn't arrived.

Glad to hear posted orders have arrived though.

Two branches of Waterstones close by. Went to the nearest, they had them in stock, but the Head Office had not sent anyone to set up the display. Went to the other one, and they had the 300 on display, asked about the 600 and they brought one out to show me. Ended up buying it. I didn't think the display was that different to the 505, but will check tonight. It's faster to turn the pages, and I liek that I can make notes and annotate.

Bought mine in Waterstones (Arndale Centre, Manchester) today. Having had a 505 before I was a bit worried about whether the screen would be as clear but I am happy with the 600. It's so nice to have it respond to commands so much quicker.

Yep, Canary Wharf was just shafted on it's delivery. Their touches have now arrived but they are still waiting on the 300 (though they have a display model), and a display model for the 300...

Mine is now charging on my desk...

I haven't really seen anyone mention this before, are the page turns that much faster with the 600 then?

much much faster.

And it doesn't skip 10 pages with a long press it skims back page by page without a full flash.

Bought the 600 at waterstones today. Not happy with the crispness of the text and glare. I want to return it but Waterstones will not accept returns for the sony readers if opened. I find it funny that in all there stores they only have the 300 on display and on, while the 600 stays off locked away. Scared about the glare of the shop lighting??? The sony reader has its own return policy?? Everything else can be taken back within 21 days.

You bought it instore?

The receipts say "21 days" and don't mention any special provision for the reader just that the item must be in "perfect condition".

I seem to recall that "distance selling" is even more strict and they have to accept returns for 28 days, so if you bought it online you have even more to go on.

Lastly there is always the sale of goods act. Any fault with the machine in the first 6 months is assumed to have been present at point of sale unless the merchant can prove otherwise, so you can hope for an early release manufacturing fault. (damaging it yourself and taking it back would be fraud, so I wouldn't recommend that).

That said, my 600 is growing on me. I'm going to give it a week exclusively before I go instore and argue the toss.

The problem is, though, that an opinion that the screen has too much glare is just that: a personal opinion. It would probably be difficult to prove that there was any "fault".

I never said it was Harry hence the comment "So you can hope for an early release manufacturing fault." They are hardly unknown even for a company like Sony.

I was thinking something like my first iLiad that suddenly got hot to the touch (not quite painfully so) and stopped responding, 3 days after receipt. I think the Battery died. And I wish to $deity now I had insisted on a refund rather than accepting a replacement.
