Saying Hello

I'm Alex and I'm posting to this forum for the first time. I'm reading More William by Richmal Crompton on my iPod Touch. I last read any William stories when I was 11 or 12 years old - too many years ago to tell you. But, it's so funny. I'm sure Ms. Crompton wrote this stuff for adults. Youngsters just wouldn't get the humour. It's also of its time. William has a penknife, a catapult lights fires and breaks windows. Kids today would get locked up for those things.

Hi Alex, welcome to MobileRead.

It's interesting what you say about the William books being for adults, because I couldn't get on with them at all as a child (I was a fan of the Jennings books, and the old Billy Bunter stories ).

Maybe I'll try Richmal Crompton again, and see if I enjoy her books more now I'm grown up.

Welcome to MobileRead, Alex!

There are many books specifically marketed for children that have a great deal of adult humor in them. It works out well, especially for Read Alouds because some of the sarcasm goes over the child's head but it keeps the adult engaged enough to keep reading.

Happy Reading.

Thanks for replying folks.
I too loved the Jennings books. I read some again a few years ago. They are even better than William I think.
