This would be good except that the automated conversion leaves a lot to be desired. I went back to using the scanned PDFs fairly quickly.

But Google Books is still limited to the US, for other countries is almost impossible to download a book.

Does anyone know why some books are not available as epubs even though they've been acceptably OCR'd? I mispladed my copy of Lewis Spence's Occult Encyclopedia and was happy to find that Google had scanned in the original 1920 edition. Imagine my dismay when it turns out that I can either use the ocrd text online or download the page images in pdf.

I've been working with the Google epubs for a while through the Sony eBook Library software. Overall, I have found the OCR quality to be reasonably good. If you come across an epub where the conversion wasn't effective, try to search for another edition of the same work using the "editions:" search option, with the colon followed by the Google book search code for the book. The code is in your browser address line when you are viewing the book on the Google Book Search site.
