prs 505 ebook

Hi , and good morning to one and all , This is my first post here, and I was wondering if any members have had the same experience with their " sony prs 505 ebook, I bought mine in the UK in March 2009 , and in April I moved to Bangkok Thailand , Have enjoyed reading my ebook up until yesterday, When I charged my book thro my lap top, and continued reading as usual, finished the chapter and pressed the bookmark before turning off with the slide switch on the top, nothing happened !! It WILL NOT TURN OFF and the consequence of this ,is now the battery discharges rapidly , ie: It will need charging every day for me to continue with the story I`m reading at the moment , and by evening time is again depleted ! I have tried the re-set button on the back , to no avail, HELP needed please, also this ebook has not been marketed here in South East Asia, so I may have to resort to "Sony Europe " for replacement or repair ! Any and all advice would be most welcome , Cheers and happy reading

Hello, I am new here. But, I would like to add something about the PRS505. I have owned mine for about 2 years. Recently I inquired of Sony about battery replacement. It took a while and it seemed like they didn't want to discuss it. Now I know why. The unit has to be sent back to Sony for this maintenance. And, the price was staggering. It was almost as much as buying a new unit. I think it is NOT an oversight that the battery can not be replaced by the user!!!!

Welcome to MR, Ronzzz. I have seen discussions about replacing the battery without sending back to Sony. As I stated above, I save thread discussions about issues just in case I need them. I found the below about battery replacement..

Micky,

The "power switch" on the PRS-505 does nothing other than to blank the screen and lock the buttons. It sounds, from your description, as if your power switch is faulty, but this should in no way affect the battery life of the Reader. With moderate usage, you should get around two weeks battery life from a battery charge.

You can, of course, do a full shut-down from the menu. This really does turn the device off, but if the power switch on your machine is indeed faulty, there is a danger that you may not be able to turn it back on again if you do that.

Last time I checked, the price for a battery replacement was about US$70. That doesn't seem outrageous to me when you include labour costs, etc.
