OS X Does not see my 505
Hi All,
When I have my 505 plugged in my computer does nothing, does not mount the 505. It does however appear in disk utilities. When I have it plugged in with the SD card in it, it mounts the SD card like it is an external card reader. Is there a way to force OS X (10.5.7) to mount the reader? Any help is appreciated ![]() |

Strange if it sees the SD vard but not the reader. Mine has worked okay with 10.5.5 onwards without any issues.
I assume you are plugging in direct to the PC and not via a hub? You could try rebooting the MAC and plugging it in again but otherwise I'm at a loss. I don't know enough to use the terminal to get any useful info out of it. |

There's no reason it shouldn't show up & mine shows up fine, even via a hub... If you can back it up somehow, I'd suggest trying a "Settings/Advanced/Format Internal Memory" or whatever it's called, in case there's something odd with the internal disk that's causing the problem

Thanks guys, I tried rebooting (several times), it is plugged into the computer (no hub) Formatting the internal memory via the reader doesn't do any good, there is nothing saved there for it to reformat. I thought about formatting via disk utility but I don't want to destroy my reader.
![]() I have since figured out that the problem is with the computer, not the reader, I plugged it into my laptop (also a Mac) and it works great. |

My iMac will not "see" the Sony ereader, but will recognise the SD card. I hadn't thought of using the Macbook, I must try that. At present I'm using my Dell laptop purely for the reader downloads, and get frustrated with reverting to Windows.
Why will the Macbook recognise the reader, but not the iMac? Hopefully Sony will bring out a Mac compatible bit of software upgrade for the 505 soon. |

The biggest difference that I can think of is my desktop is running 10.5.6 and my laptop 10.5.7, other than that I don't know
![]() But I did read somewhere here on the forum that Sony is coming out with Mac support by the end of the summer. Here it is |

Hmm - I'm running 10.5.8 on my iMac & it also saw it on 10.5.7, but I don't recall if I tried it on 10.5.6...

Most odd, I've a mini and an imac and both see it from 10.5.6 onwards (I didn't have it befre then)
Out of interest, do you use Calibre? If so, does it see both reader & SD card? |

appears to work fine on my iMac (running 10.5.6),
although i've not taken any notice as to whether it mounts both the card and the reader it see's them in calibre, so all's good, suggest you grab calibre (if you haven't already) and see if you can see them, as suggested above |

If you see it in Disk Utility what happens when you try to mount it from there?
Also, are you perhaps running some type of VM software like Parallels or VMWare Fusion that has that USB device captured? I know that when you capture a USB device in Fusion it is no longer available to mount in Finder. BOb |

I'm not running any other programs like Fusion, I do try and use a hub when attaching the ereader; but have the same result when attaching directly to the Mac. I can see the reader in finder and load books manually from there, but that's messy and I lose the cover images.
I'll have another go with Calibre on the iMac. |

When Sony releases the Mac version of the eBook Library software this should be resolved. We are all expecting it to be released August 25th with the new reader models. that said, I'm not sure why you loose cover images, the ebook is a single file and no matter what you use to copy it to your reader you should see the same results. BOb EDIT: Opps.. sorry Lyc I see that you are not the OP. |

When I run Calibre, it doesn't see either the reader or the card.
I am not running Parallels or anything like that. When I try and mount from Disk Utility it says: Mount failed The disk “disk1” could not be mounted. Try running First Aid on the disk and then retry mounting. When I run First Aid it says: Verifying volume “disk1” ** No NTFS file system checks have been implemented yet. ** Reporting that the volume is fine without checking anything. Verify and Repair volume “disk1” ** /usr/local/bin/ntfsfix has been disabled because of volume corruption issues. ** If you still want to try fixing your volume, use /usr/local/bin/ntfsfix from the command line... Error: Filesystem verify or repair failed. I will sure be happy when Sony comes out with Mac support ![]() |

I think there is a "reformat" menu option on the Sony. You should use that. Keep in mind, this will be destructive and you will loose all your current books on the device. But, I am pretty sure the default file system will be FAT32 which the Mac can mount. If that doesn't work or isn't available, you should be able to "Erase" with Disk Utility specifying it to create a FAT32 file system. BOb |
