Smile New Newegg Jetbook Jets to Texas

When newegg had the Jetbook for $169 shipped I thought 'What the heck!"

I tried the first Kindle but found the page turn flash and the subscription models a bit of a turn off so sent it back.

At this price it seemed I didn't have much to lose - well $169 I suppose! Nothing to sniff at, but - you get my drift...

I downloaded Calibre and very nice it is too. I am trying to find a way using maybe Google Reader or some other RSS technology to get all my RSS feeds as one download - suggestions?

Also, what does the panel think vis a vis the best format to use on the Jetbook? If I get .txt files should I just leave them as such or should I have Calibre convert to another format?

On a personal note, I live in Dallas, TX, grew up in the UK. Love to read almost anything and as I get older and start to travel a little more am excited about using eBooks. I must say though that I still love 'real' books as, I'm sure, many people here do too.

Best wishes, Les Hall

Converting to ePub is your best choice. That way if later on you do decide you want a different device, you can get one that also supports ePub and all your ePub files will still work.

Thanks Jon & cassidym - I have spent a good part of the morning raking through this site and very entertaining and educational it is too. Who knew there were so many free books out there - legit I mean.

Congrats Les! I'd recommend ePUB as well. Let us know if you have any jetBook-related questions... soon we'll have our own forum.

Hello Les and welcome to MobileRead. I live ~ 50 miles north of you in the grand metropolis of Sanger.

I own both a Kindle1 and a Sony 505. I'm thinking about getting a 5-inch reader later this year, but first I need to get a netbook. I'm traveling to Ireland in September and need to get my essential software loaded onto a netbook; then I can think about another reader.

We're really glad that you've joined us here at MobileRead. I'll be sure to contact you the next time we plan a Meet-up of the TX contingent.

Thanks Kralik & Elsi.

I have a netbook I've had some time - an Asus - which I typically take on vacation and usually use as a glorified hard drive for storing photos. They keyboard on mine is pretty ropey - I think I have the 900HA. But it was cheap.

I am looking forward to traveling with the Jetbook, I have set up Calibre to download my favourite feeds so am excited about how they will look on the little machine. Not as elegant as the Kindle's wireless, but hey! I'm Scottish!

Hmm - I wonder if there are any travel guides? I'm off to Sonoma, CA Sept. 5 - I'm a very lucky guy!

Yes, let me know next time there is an eBook gathering thing in N. Texas.

I'm not into feeds, newspapers, or magazines, but I take my Kindle and Sony with me everywhere I go. While I take paper books with me on trips in the car, I won't have enough room in my luggage to take any with me to Ireland.

You might check out travel web sites, download the HTML, and then use Calibre to turn them into a book for yourself.
