Greetings from Mont Saint Hilaire, Québec

I am looking forward to learning more about the emerging world of paperless reading. For years I have been reading ebooks from ereader.com and fictionwise.com, on the tiny screen of my iPAQ (WinCE/Windows Mobile). These new dedicated readers (SONY, Kindle) seem like overkill to me. But then, a dedicated music player like the iPod seemed like hyperbole too. My PDA can play music and display books, and a lot besides.

Welcome to MobileRead Jeff.

I like having my dedicated eBook reader, in fact I have two, the Sony PRS-505 and PRS-700. I can carry hundreds, if not thousands, of books around with me wherever I go, but I usually only have about 10 books loaded. The rest I just keep in my library on my PC and have access to them whenever I want.

The quality of the eInk screen and ease of use on the eyes is appealing to a lot of people. The prices of dedicated readers are coming down. Sony might be coming out with a new model for under 200.00 US$ in the very near future.

Enjoy the forum. Maybe we can influence you into a dedicated device or, if not, you might find some good advice and technical expertise from our members for reading on your PDA.

Again, welcome from another Canadian,

Hello Jeff. Welcome to MobileRead. I know that I don't *need* an e-book reader, but I read so much that I can justify having one for my recreational reading. Likewise, I don't really listen to music, so my hubby appropriated the iPod that my kids gave me for Christmas. (We're both happy about that.)

We're glad you've joined us at MobileRead.

Oh you are right on time!
Next Saturday will be held the first Montréal Mobile Read meet-up, where members of the forum will bring their devices and where you could...I don't know...be convinced you absolutely need to get yourself one?
If you are interested, details are here.

Welcome to Mobile Read!

Welcome to MobileRead, Jeff!

I used to use my Ipaq for reading, etc. but once I was given my first reader, I was hooked. There really is no comparison, particularly when talking about an eink display. Like, WDE, I like the fact that I can carry around a library in my pocket (or purse) and love the fact that I can download books without having to wait for something to be delivered. Either way, though, I am sure you will find MobileRead helpful. Don't be shy about jumping into the fray!

Happy Reading.

Hi Jeff and welcome to MobileRead. I used to read on an iPaq till I got a Sony 505 and I will never go back! You touch one of these and you are addicted.
