Do you correct your ebooks?

Unless it's from here or a Fictionwise multiformat, I convert all my ebooks to HTML before bringing them into Calibre. Lately, there have been a few which had mistakes (mostly line breaks where there should be no line breaks). I am very tempted to correct these so I will have a 'clean' copy if I re-read the book. Does anybody do this? I suppose I can just bookmark the page and then go back into the HTML to fix it. Also, I guess I could just make a backup of the HTML file, leave it running on the computer and use the computer's search and replace to fix it. I just feel like if I do read it again, I want it nice-looking

Anyone else?

Yes, all the time

A lot of the books I've bought from Waterstones have no covers, and I like to have proper covers. So I strip DRM and bring them into Calibre for cover adding and any corrections I find as I'm reading (I have a little black book where I'll make a note if I find anything out of whack which I'll go back to in the html later and fix.)

I do it all the time, too, exactly the way you described - I bookmark pages with errors as I read, then when I reach 20-30, I correct everything and continue reading.

As do I.

Besides the reasons others have provided, I find that many of my Mobi-format purchases have full justification hard-coded, not allowing me to switch to left-justified text in my reader (which I prefer with short line lengths). So I have to "fix" that.

I used to, but I've been working so many extra hours at work...and I was spending too much time prettying up my books and not actually reading them!

So at the moment, no - not any more.

Always. I'll correct while reading (touchscreen FTW!) When I'm done, I'll update the source, create a new book and from then on, I'll only use that copy.

I do. I get most of my books from free sources such as Project Gutenberg, and frequently find OCR errors. Bugs me.

Never. That's a lot of work! If it was something I could do easily, maybe, but I have too many other things I want to do with my computer time.

I recently signed up with Distributed Proofreaders. If you're correcting errors in Project Gutenberg books, perhaps you'd consider helping to stop those errors from ever seeing the light of day.

I fix the easy stuff if I can. And I add covers to books that don't have them. But finding covers that are good is a real pain.

I find it very strange that people fix problem if they then cannot contribute the fixes back to people. I would never fix a book I bought to read it myself. If it was very broken I would return the book.

Not returning badly formatted DRMed books give the wrong signal to the seller.

ftw yes !

and that's exactly how i do it.

with the eb1150 and the 700 i note the error when i see it, then from time to time i correct my original file, then reload it, and read the corrected one.
