I WANT A READER

Hello People, I have to admit besides my iPhone i have never read from a Mobile device before. But this should change asap. Hopefully i will get a goot one here. I am heading for a iLiad v2 or a PRS-700. All the others don't seem to suit me. Or has anyone an other Idea? Kindle unfortunately does not ship to Austria and, du to the limited Formats, is useless for me.

Hi monkfood and welcome aboard. I have had a Sony prs505 for some time now, I did think about the 700 but much prefer the clarity of the 505 as it seems do a lot of others.

There is some speculation that Sony may be on the point of releasing something new, but who knows.

Hi Robert and welcome to MR!

I believe there is quite a bit of hardware news on the horizon, but I've been keeping up more with the 5" news, so other people here will probably give you better advice than I can about larger screens--which is what it sounds like you're interested in--or did I misread?

Welcome to MobileRead, Robert!

I have a Sony 700 and love it. The display is not a crisp as that of the 505 but I really wanted the touch screen capability of the 700. There is a bit of glare but not anything too grevious. You might want to check out this thread that talks about the current situation with Sony. It might help you in the decision making process. Good luck.

Happy reading!

Hi Robert and welcome to MobileRead. I've had a Sony 505 for over a year and a half and really like it

Thanks for the nice welcome!
At the beginning i was also thinking of getting a 505, then i discovered the abilities of the 700: faster, touch screen. And with this abilities I can add notes to the pdf files i read. I mainly need it to read Technical papers. reading books is second priority.
Now that I saw the writing ability of the iLiad i am fixed on that. :-)

Well, normally I recommend people to buy what is available right now and not to wait for some new model, because at any given moment there is a new exciting model just about to be announced. When you buy gadgets you have to be content with the fact that whatever you buy, it is already obsolete.

Today, the situation is a little bit more complicated.
Think about what size you fancy.

- You might go for the good, ole' 6 inch, in which case it might be interesting to wait a little bit to see what the new Sony Reader PRS-600 brings. It might have all the good things the PRS-700 introduced, plus the quality of display of PRS-505. You should also consider Astak EZ reader Basic. They have just announced the Adobe e-pub support and they have a sale to celebrate that event.

- You might want to "go portable" and try one of those new 5 inch units. In this case, you might want to wait and see what will the newly leaked PRS-300 offer. You will also definitely want to investigate Bookeen Opus and Astak EZ Reader Pocket Pro. Pocket Pro is available for preorder at the moment, they promised they will ship at the end of August. Bookeen Opus is just rebranded Netronix device and Pocket Pro is just rebranded Hanlin device. See our wiki for other OEM distributors.

- You might also prefer larger screen (if you are more interested in pdf readability than in portability) in that case you might want to have a look at Kindle DX.

- And if you have lots of money and a need for a really big screen, have a look at iRex products.
