Unhappy HELP

Hello !

I have just found this website during a somewhat frustrating search for access to my Kindle 2 in Scotland. I purchased the Kindle 2 specifically for this vacation and just now realize that I can't purchase anything because I have no whispernet access. Am I correct in this assumption ? or is there a way I can purchase books to read while I am traveling in Scotland ?

I am lookig forward to chatting and exchanging thoughts and messages with this group.

Thanks.

A: So long as you are purchasing with a credit card that is issued by a U.S. bank and have a U.S. billing address, you can purchase content while traveling. You can make purchases to read on you Kindle from anywhere you have either 1) Whispernet service (http://www.showmycoverage.com/mycoverage.jsp?id=A921ZON), or, 2) Access to www.amazon.com/kindlestore (and a USB cable to download from your computer if you are out of wireless range). -Kindle Team
I don't have a Kindle so hopefully a member who owns a Kindle will pop in soon. Hope this helps.

If you don't have access to a computer to buy the books, you will not be able to purchase books. Whispernet access is only available in the US.

Welcome to MobileRead, drvee.

I am sorry you are having trouble with your reader. The others have already explained one of the drawbacks of using a Kindle overseas. I don't know anything about Kindles, but I know there are others who have posted about similar problems. If you take a look at the Kindle forum or even post your question there, I am sure one of our Kindle members will be able to help. Good luck.

Happy Reading!

Hello drvee

You might also try looking at this link http://www.nerdgirl.com/2009/03/20/a...utside-the-us/

I believe nerdgirl is in the UK. Her workaround should apply to you too.

Good luck!

Thanks to all who responded. I appreciate it ! After I played around on the Amazon site, I found out how I could purchase, download to my laptop, and then transfer to the Kindle. It was an interesting experience; apparantly no one in Scotland has heard of the Sony or the Kindle. However, the flight attendant on the flight home asked me how I liked e-reading as he had just purchased one himself.
Thank again.
