PRS-505 frozen in 'half screen'

Hi guys,

Have any of you tried unfreezing a 505?

After draining battery to about 25% I let it charge for a few hours, using the usb cable. When disconnected and turned on, it showed a starting up screen - which it never does. It's now frozen showing the overview of "Continue reading", "Books by title" etc. Half the screen is sort of toned out and blurry.

I tried resetting, but it was no help.

When turning it on, the light flashes red, and nothing happens.

Any suggestions are welcome... I tried Sony - they were eh, less than helpful.

Sounds as though the battery's dead - it can be "problematic" to charge a really flat battery via USB.

You need to charge using a wall charger. Go to your nearest "video game" store and get a wall charger for a Sony Playstation Portable - cheap, and the same charging "spec" as the Reader. Charge with that and all should be well.

Reading up on the PRS' issues with USB-charging, I'd figured it was something like that, but figured you wizzes might have a secret button fix to make it all better... you know, like holding shift while booting

I'll see myself to the hardware store.

UPDATE: If anybody else encounters the same problem, get yourself a proper charger - like one for the PSP. It'll charge your PRS nicely... while the USB charger will kill your book and give you testicular cancer. So there.

Just to let you know, if you have an AT&T Tilt cell phone, that AC charger will also work with the PRS!!
