Hello.

Recently I've been getting interested in E-Books. Downloading a book directly to a reader instead of having to go out to a library or store is exactly what I need (and reading on a PC monitor hurts my eyes). Now I just have to figure out which one to buy. At first I was a little bit worried about the prices, but seeing links to free and inexpensive E-Books kind of sealed the deal for me, and I like the community you guys have here. In the long run, maybe an E-Book reading device will save me money, and it's definitely more convenient. I also like the idea of putting web page content onto them as well (RSS feeds, regular web pages and Word documents).

It will probably be another 2-3 months before I buy one, but so far I like the Kindle 2 the most. The Sony 505 looks good too. And who knows what else will be out by that time. I need to keep a look out for any new products. For now I'm going to continue reading through old threads, and later on I will probably ask any unanswered questions that I have.

Hi Shibito, welcome to MR!

I suspect you'd be happy with either the Kindle or the Sony 505. But if you're going to wait 2-3 months before buying, there might be some other good choices to consider by then.

Hi Shibito and welcome to MobileRead. I've had a Sony 505 for over a year and a half and really like it

Welcome to MobileRead, Shibito!

Not to scare you but, if you are anything like me, a reader won't save you money. You'll end up buying more and more to feed your ebook habit! I love having a dedicated reader and the ability to carry a huge amount of books with me where ever I go. There are a lot of free ebooks here that you can download and more and more local libraries are offering ebooks for you to download. Good luck making your decision. Which ever way you go, I know you will love your reader.

Happy reading!

Welcome! No it isn't significantly cheaper, unless you are reading the free public domain books--those are great and there are a lot of them here. It is, however, MORE fun to read on an ereader.
