I agree - Sony and Amazon freebies and offers are useless to anyone unable to access their stores, which usually means the large number of forum members outside the US.

Now, since it's free, perhaps someone would be so kind as to share the file itself here so the rest of us can download it? Just a thought...

That would be a copyright violation. The fact that it's freely downloadable from certain web sites does not make it freely redistributable.

It should also be in the Sony Store (I suspect also "US Only", since that's the way authors sign contracts on book rights).

I also don't see the "US Only" stopping a lot of the international readers here or on the Amazon boards.
