SONY E-Reader

Can anyone please help. Have downloaded an e-book from Waterstones.com. Can read the book on the computer but when we try to transfer it to our Sony e-reader we get the message that the e-reader is registered to a different user. How can we get round this problem please?

Hi chalkie115 and welcome to MobileRead. I gather you're in the UK.

Anyway, have you bought other books from Waterstones (or anyone else) and been able to upload them or is this your first one?

Hi Jorge thanks for replying. This is the first e-book we have downloaded. It works fine on the computer but won't transfer to the e-reader stating that it is registered to a different user. Therefore the e-reader is registered in a different name. Is there a way around this problem that you know of?

What software do you use when you download the book to your computer? Maybe you need to authorize that. Hopefully that makes sense. For example, I use Adobe Digital Editions and when I first installed that, I had to authorize that program as well as my 505.

I've never ordered from Waterstones though, so I don't know what else it could be.

Also, did you buy the Sony Reader used? It may need to be de-registered from the original purchaser.

Thanks for your replies. My wife bought the e-reader new. I set it up about 8 months ago and registered it with Adobe in my e-mail address and I presume the reader was also registered in the same address. A couple of weeks ago my wife decided to download her first e-book from Waterstones.com and downloaded it from them in her e-mail address that she registered at Waterstones. When she tried to open the book in Digital Editions the message that the book couldn't be opened because the computer was registered in a different user account which of course was my e-mail address. To cut a long story short we got no help from Waterstones, Adobe or Sony for the problem. I decided to get my wife to open a new account at Waterstones in a brand new e-mail address which she also registered with Adobe. I used a seperate computer downloaded and installed digital editions and the Sony e-book reader. My wife downloaded the book onto that computer and this time we could read the book using digital editions. The problem now lies with downloading that book from that computer to the e-reader. On trying to accomplish this we get an error message stating that the this cannot be accomplished because the e-reader is registered to a different user which of course is to me in my e-mail address. This is a nightmare. I can't believe how difficult this issue appears to be. I need a way of wiping all the data from the e-reader to effectively remove the registration it is in at the moment of some other way of getting the reader and the computer in the same account name. Have taken the e-reader back to it's original condition but it still appears to be registerd to my e-mail address.Hope this makes sense and sorry it's a bit long winded.

Found this on the Adobe help blog

http://forums.adobe.com/thread/314870

You need to do this on the computer the Sony was authorised to (with digital editions running). Then re authorise on the computer you purchased the book on.

--------------------------
Unfortunately there is no good way to tell the AdobeID that a Sony Reader was registered to. So the best alternative I can come up with, is to Deauthorize your Reader in ADE (again this is seperate and distinct from the Sony store registration) by pressing "Ctrl+Shift+E" with the Sony Reader plugged in. This will remove any Adobe Authorization from the Sony Reader and should immediately ask you to reauthorize the Sony Reader. If it does not do so, with ADE still active, unplug and replug your Sony Reader from the PC should force the Device Activation dialog to come up.

If this doesn't work you best bet will be to open up a tech support case.

Hope this helps

Well what a difference a day makes. Plugged e-reader into computer ready to try Columbus's thread and before doing anything else than open Adobe Digital Editions I was informed that the e-reader and the computer were registered in different accounts. I was then given the option of bringing the e-reader into the same registration as the computer. Then downloaded book to the e-reader and lo and behold it all works fine now. Why it didn't do that yesterday I really don't know. My wife is over the moon and can nowe read her precious book. It will now probably turn out to be awful. Thankyou very much to all of you for your help and advice. Hope I can return the favour one day. Regards Chalkie.
