PRS 700 does not mount on Ubuntu 8.10
hi
my prs-700 used to mount most of the times on my ubuntu 8.10 (sometimes a reboot was necessary). lately, however, it does not mount even after rebooting both the computer and the reader, disconnecting etc. ubuntu shows 2 USB drives which I cannot open and the Memory Card as an additional drive. I can work with the memory card like a regular drive, but i cannot use it in calibre. Any ideas how I can get access to the reader's main memory and use calibre successfully? Thanks |

try reformatting the internal memory you can do that using menus on the device itself.

did so. the reader was frozen for a while and now i am just happy the reader works again, at least. ubuntu mounting still does not work.
i guess i will just switch to other computers and hope that the problem will be solved with the upcoming ubuntu 9.04 release. thanks for the help... Last edited by ita; 04-17-2009 at 10:09 AM. |

Mounting devices in Linux can be tricky.
Use the terminal and type: dmesg This will give you a starting point. It will display the last several lines of the system log and there you can see if it saw your drives. They will have names like /dev/sdd1 or /dev/sdc You could also try typing in the terminal: tail -f /var/log/messages this will monitor the message log in realtime. then plug in the reader and see what messages you get. From there you can start troubleshooting by searching those messages on google. The sony reader on Linux is simply a usb storage sevice or 2 if you hav a SD card installed. Here is what I see on a successful mount of the reader: Apr 20 13:19:47 ubuntu kernel: [477380.621053] scsi 8:0:0:1: [sdd] READ CAPACITY failed Apr 20 13:19:47 ubuntu kernel: [477380.621059] scsi 8:0:0:1: [sdd] Result: hostbyte=DID_NO_CONNECT driverbyte=DRIVER_OK,SUGGEST_OK Apr 20 13:19:47 ubuntu kernel: [477380.621065] scsi 8:0:0:1: [sdd] Sense not available. or upgrade to ubuntu 9.04. used to see the problem sometimes on 8.10 but with 9.04 it seems to have gone away.

Did you run lsusb to check the list of connected devices?
Maybe silly but, did you try unmounting the cf card and remounting the device only manually? Or just use the 'save to disk' function in calibre to put the file in the cf card ^^ |
