PDF problems...

I updated my firmware a while ago and just noticed that I can't zoom in pdf!

It just sends me back to the main page with the writing at the same size. If I'm reading a book with a small font, each letter is 5 pixels high and some words are illegible. I have good eyesight, bit it seems the resolution does not work for me. Normal books work fine, (I use .rtf) and I always have small text mode on.

Also, pages in .pdf take too long to load. I flip the page and watch it sit there frozen for 10 seconds before refreshing. Quite annoying. By contrast it takes 2 seconds or less to switch an entire page of small writing in .rtf

Anybody face this problem before? I remember when buying this toy it said you can have 3 levels of zoom.

It sounds like the PDF you're trying to view might be an image file instead of a text file. On some PDFs all of the file is represented in images instead of text. If that's the case, the zoom on the 505 won't be able to reflow the text. The only thing you can do is switch to landcape and view half a page at a time.

Image files (PDFs made from scanned pages, usually) and some heavily-formatted PDFs with lots of columns and tables won't reflow.

What's a program that can crop the white borders automatically? That would certainly help me.

I don't know if there is a program that will cut borders automatically. Perhaps someone will come along who can help.

boriz--I'm pretty sure there are programs out there that will do this. Check under the PDF section of the forums--you'll probably have better luck there.

Adobe Acrobat can crop pages (Document -> Crop pages), just make sure you check the box to crop pages on the entire document.

As far as small font size - I found that changing font size to 24 before converting a document to pdf produces a good size text on the Sony reader.

The problem I've been having, though, is that turning pages on PDF documents is extremely slow when you get to 500+ range. Anyone know a solution for that?
