PalmSource revenues remain strongly dependent on Palm

PalmSource has filed a Form 10-K in which they discuss various forward-looking risks and uncertainties of the company. The main talk is about unexpected losses in royalities from Palm OS licensees, and about Palm company still accounting for a substantial portion of PalmSource's revenues for the foreseeable future (that is unless Palm withdraws from PalmOS, which they do could at any time).

"Outlook for fiscal year 2006: We anticipate revenue will be negatively impacted on a year-over-year basis by factors such as Sony’s exit from the PDA market, the pre-pay of one licensee’s royalty minimum, and the expiration of certain prepaid royalties that were being amortized on a quarterly basis."

1) the pre-pay of one licensee’s royalty minimum == LG had to pay up front
2) Palm's license contract has a $40mil/yr minimum payment clause. Palm will be paying PalmSource at least that much per year, and more if they sell enough Palm OS devices.
