Palm is "Switzerland over OS" says CFO

One thing is for sure: Palm company doesn't want to be synonymous with Palm OS anymore. If you're still having any doubt that Palm is flirting with Windows Mobile, maybe this C|Net article will change your mind. It quotes Palm CFO Andy Brown saying that his company could benefit from building a mobile computing device that runs on Windows Mobile and that in general they are neutral upon chosing which OS platform to run future Palm devices with.

Soundbites from Palm CFO confident... webcast you posted on last week. Have they been taken in context?

It's based on an interview CNet had with Brown right after the webcast.

Quote:
"The fact is we are Switzerland, whether it be over the e-mail server or the OS," Brown told CNET News.com last week after a presentation to financial analysts at an RBC Capital Markets conference in San Francisco.

I've never owned a Palm so maybe I am coming at this from the wrong angle since I'm ignorant of the hardware. But would a Palm device running Windows Mobile be something attractive to anyone? Are there people out there saying "I love my Palm but I hate the OS oh I wish it ran something else?" Hmm maybe so.

My experience with Palm devices ended back in the Palm V days and that was supporting them on a help desk and not actually owning one.

Whatever happened to the BeOS technology they acquired? I thought Palm 6 was gonna be based on that?

I should shut up since I'm so out of the loop

It wouldn't be the first to bite the dust. Remember the Commodore Amiga? Wonderful machine. But it didn't matter. PC took over and the Amiga vanished.
