Hi there!

Hi folks,

I'm from Canberra Australia, and just starting to get interested in an e-ink book reader.

I've been using my hacked PSP with bookr for reading text, which I've mostly converted from PDF. I'm starting to find it hard to read for long periods of time, the small LCD screen is probably to blame. I'm also getting annoyed at the software's inability to display accented characters, and other typgraphic entities (emdash, proper quotes, etc).

My favourite at the moment is the Irex Iliad, 8" screen, Community software, and importantly, available for sale in Australia, and only a little bit stupidly expensive (as opposed do the Digital Reader, which is stupidly expensive).

Once I've got one (unless you lovely folk convince me something else would be better!) I'll get in to the openiliad project, and help out however I can.

Cheers
pwarren.

Welcome to MobileRead pwarren!

The eink devices are so much easier on the eyes then LCD. You could also check out the wiki for more information about different readers (the link is at the very, very top of the page).

Well, I've done some reading of the wiki, and the 'what device should I buy' thread, think I'll change my mind

The Hanlin V3 is my next pick, being about a third the cost of the iliad was a big incentive! I managed to have a look at a sony 505, and it seems that the 6" screen is big enough, and not too big for reading in bed!

And I'm very interested in the OpenInkpot project.

Gotta fund it somehow first

and, it's also available from retailers in Australia, or the BeBook folks will ship one out fairly cheap.

This is an excellent forum for finding information about ebooks and readers isn't it? I learn something new nearly every time I log on and I have saved quiet a bit of money as well.
