ABOUT THE AUTHOR

William Shirer (1904-1993) was originally a foreign correspondent for the Chicago Tribune and was the first journalist hired by Edward R. Murrow for what would become a team of journalists for CBS radio. Shirer distinguished himself and quickly became known for his broadcasts from Berlin during the rise of the Nazi dictatorship through the first year of World War II. Shirer was the first of “Edward R. Murrow’s Boys” - broadcast journalists - who provided news coverage during World War II and afterward. It was Shirer who broadcast the first uncensored eyewitness account of the annexation of Austria. Shirer is best known for his books The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich and Berlin Diary.

Thank you very much for posting this. I have been wanting to read The Rise and Fall for some time, but knew I would never get through the paper book. I was considering writing the publisher and requesting a Kindle version; now I don't need to!

No carpal tunnel, but I've started to show symptoms of an ulnar nerve problem. Also a repetitive stress injury. Ulnar nerve runs down the side of the wrist/hand.

I relented and also purchased Berlin Diary at $2.99 about two hours ago. Just under the wire...

I was thinking about getting Berlin Diary, and was going to do so this morning but found out I was too late.

I wonder what's up with that. Do you think Amazon or the publisher raise the price on an ebook when they start to see increased interest? (not neccessarily actual purchases). At least I got The Rise and Fall at the lower price

As of last night, Rosetta hadn't released the epub versions or listed the books on their website, so I suspect it was a pricing error. I prefer getting an epub edition, but I bought them at Amazon because most Rosetta ebooks have a non-discounted price around $9 or $10, and I figured that if I waited, I'd have to pay the full price.

When I looked at Rise and Fall last night at Amazon it was showing $2.99 as both the list price and the Amazon price. So I didn't buy it, assuming that it would show up at Kobo and BN for the same list price. Plus the last time I got titles from RosettaBooks at Amazon--freebies--I could not get them to convert to epubs, no matter what I tried.
