Hello from Oz!

Hello everyone!

I recently discovered the Kindle 2 on Amazon about 4 days ago (literally, no joke) whilst browsing for blu-rays and when I saw the Kindle 2 and thought "What is this funky looking piece of technology?!".. Anything flat, simple and neat catches my attention.. especially if it comes in white!

I have read countless posts on this forum and compared all the recommended eReaders and it was a tough one; Cybook vs Kindle 2 vs Kindle DX but ultimately, Kindle 2 is all me (If I got the Kindle DX I'd have to get an even BIGGER hand bag! )

So now I am in the market for a Kindle 2 and I rub my hands in glee and anticipation as I wait for the Kindle DX to be released so all you K2 owners start selling hehe (well that's the plan anyways..)

BTW I'm from Perth!

hi kirari ! another australian among us ! we've got quite a few of your compatriots roaming around here, so you should feel quite at home. some of them are even planning a meetup soon, you can learn about it here and if you'll be nearby you would be welcome to join them. then you could take a look at lots of different models and try them out !

in the meantime, enjoy the forum ! don't miss our ebooks upload section for thousands of free books formatted by our members, just click on the "ebooks" link in the blue navigation bar at the top of the page. if you do get a kindle, you will want the mobipocket format.

don't hesitate to ask any questions ! and check out the flea market forum as well, you never know if you'll get lucky...

G' day Kirari and welcome to the Forum. Been in Perth a time or two. Great beer!

Meanwhile, if you get a kindle, would you be able to use the wireless feature there?

Yes, we do have great beer! but it's a pity I don't drink it

No, unfortunately the wireless feature will not work, but that's where the USB comes in handy !

I hope so too! I'm forever on the hunt these days. Still a bit steep, avg $500 on ebay. But I may lose the willpower to be patient and nab one up soon lol.

Thx all!

Hello Kirari and welcome to MobileRead. It looks to me like you've done all your homework and have figured out whether the Kindle will fit your needs. I'm a proud owner of a Kindle 1 as well as a Sony 505. I'm tempted -- really tempted -- to pick up the Kindle DX, particularly for carrying work documents in PDF format.

I'm one of those who rarely turns on the wireless on my Kindle. I download books to my PC and then move them to the Kindle via the USB cable. I do, however, get the occasional sample which can only be delivered via the Whispernet connection. As far as I can tell, that's the only thing you can't get if you're outside the USA.

We're glad you've joined us. As Zelda mentioned, there are some terrific books stored right here at MobileRead. Enjoy!
