By popular demand - well at least from ZP - I introduce the "Mozzling Thread" for all those loverly mangled words that should be in the dictionary, but aren't (yet).

Get mozzling folks....

let's start things off properly, with a brief introduction in the form of a citation of the origin of mozzling :

little did taylor suspect what he was setting in motion, the day he mozzled "mozzling"...

in the name of science (and to faciliate things for the future anthropologists who stumble, bemused, onto our little microcosm of insanity), i should possibly specify that the origins of the mouvement itself sprang from this thread (also known as "the birth of the cool"), in which moz finds the word "liseuse" suggested by zelda as a generic term for reading device (already in use in french...) completely cromulent, and decides to appropriate it into english and propagate its use...

I have a story of a failed mozzling attempt: You know those PCMCIA cards & slots? (PCMCIA, of course, stands for "People Can't Memorize Computer Industry Acronyms") I tried to get folks to call them "Pac-Man" slots & cards, as a tribute to the little guy, but nobody else liked the idea, apparently. Actually, it seems that the idea of PCMCIA cards & slots themselves don't seem to be all that popular anymore either.

I also want to call .PNG files "Pong" files, in the obvious allusion, but that doesn't seem to be catching on either.

Hey, works for me. I could never remember all six letters (about three too many for me).

We call them Proctor and Gamble (P&G) files. They've always been very big on their image.

i just call them "pings".

I too call them 'pings.'

I can report some success with 'chronophageous.' I've used it in two memos (to classicists) and one of them is now using it too.

Yeah, that seems to be the consensus.

It's a shame when "ping" still has an ongoing usage, and "pong" really doesn't, especially since we owe such a very great debt to those two lines and that dot.

hu, reminds me of "plébisciter" (from latin "plebs", the Roman popular class), meaning to be elected or approved by a very strong majority.

but what are you mozzling ? you might want to put this in the "unusual words" thread instead.
