International Lovefest :)
Okay, so I think we've all had our fill of how different we are and how annoying we are to each other, and how this side or that is right and the other side could never be right in a million years and so on. So how about a thread dedicated to what we love about each other's cultures?
Make a list, let's see some love flowing... |

I love the French for...Bridgitte Bardot, the movies of Truffaut, their wine, the French Resistance in WWII, the novels of Emile Zola, the Eiffel Tower, the language that sounds so good (even though I don't understand it), the Cannes film festival, a city that I share my Surname with,
I love the Spanish for...Picasso, the Siesta, Sangria, Miguel De Cervantes, Holidays as a kid, Tapas, Flamenco guitars, the little church with the Ebony Jesus I visited, I love the Germans for ... the best beer in the world (that doesn't make you feel terrible the day after), the Reeperbahn, beautiful trains that I travelled on many years ago, the nice woman in the Pension I stayed in who laid out ham and cheese every morning for breakfast, bike rides along the beach in Busum, the quiet taxi driver who picked me up at the airport in Hamburg, I love the Americans for...the writing of Ray Bradbury, the films of John Carpenter, the Native Americans, American Football (go Bears!), Dashiel Hammet and Raymond Chandler, Bogart and Bacall, the Statue of Liberty, Kolchak the Night Stalker, I will add more as the night goes on. I do like Scotland. Been there twice. The best thing about Scotland is that is where my wife comes from.

Besides the food, there are many other things: I appreciate people from the US and Canada for their politeness and cordiality in everyday interactions. They make you feel good even if they hardly know you. People from the UK have this incomparable sense of humour. I like Italiens and people from Spain and Portugal because they do not take things as serious as we Germans usually do. And I like the French because they have the loveliest language on earth (followed by Italian). |

I love the Czechs for brewing very good dark beer and for offering cheap cigarettes.
I love the French...well just because a good friend of mine is french and because i like the sound of their language. I love the Russians for restraining their army from taking action against us (eastern germany) as we demonstrated for freedom. Well, and because another good friend of mine is russian. I love Ireland - even if i don't know why. Whenever i see a picture of Ireland something makes me want to fly there. |

I love Ireland for giving us the beautiful and talented Carly Smithson with an awesome accent.
I love Britain for colonizing the America's. For Monty Python, for Dr. Who TV show. I love France for giving us the great Zelda Pinwheel and the Statue of Liberty. I love Romania for giving the world Nadia. I love Germany for giving us (the US) the BMW and Mercedes... even though I can't afford to buy them. I love Mexico for the Taco. I love Italy for growing my grandparents. I love Australia for keeping most of the poisonous snakes to themselves. Oh and for Marc. I love the oceans for giving us most of the world's oxygen. BOb |
