Greetings From Kabul

Hello

I am a Canadian on a consulting assignment in Kabul.

I recently purchased a Sony PS 505 and have a couple of problems:

1. After I have downloaded a book and am reading it some of the pages show up in small print and I cannot change them to large.

2. I have tried to download the latest software e library 2.1 - after loading it - i get a message saying it is "not available in my area"

Any advice is greatly appreciated

Kind Regards

Roy

Welcome to MobileRead, royallan!

I've been using a 505 for over a year now. I've encountered the small print problem once or twice with poorly formatted pdf files. What's the format of your document? Is there anything special (pictures, tables, charts, headers/footers) about the pages that won't enlarge?

As for your software question, I'll let some of the more knowledgeable members tackle that question.

I think that you may have to email Sony about the software update.

But first you might see whether downloading it from here works:

Thank you all for your replys

It is difficult to call Sony from Kabul for assistance. I will be back in Canada in early May an will call them at that time.

In terms of the small print - quite often it starts out as large print and then reverts to small print and the reader will not enlarge when i push the enlarge button

Thanks Again for your comments

Kind Regards

Roy

Call .... no, but I would try email. It's better than suffering until May. They might be able to help.

However, if they can't, I'd be willing to wager that there are some 505 owners who might have some idea about what is going on.

And ... stay safe, that is not a safe area of the world. Just in case you didn't already know that.

Thanks for your email.

Safety is a huge issue. I do not go anywhere with a driver and all buildings I am in have armed guards.

Having said all that I get an intense sense of satisfaction assisting the Afghani's. They have through 30 years of war and have tremendous resilience.

Thanks again for your advice.

Bythe way

I augment my reader by listening to books I purchase on audible.com and listen to them on my Ipod. Unfortunately the sony ereader is not recognized by audible otherwise I would listen to them.

I find listening to books particularly enjoyable when I am flying somewhere or it is late at night - cannot sleep but do not feel like reading.

My son was reading Atlas Shrugged at University. I wanted to be able to discuss it with him but found the book very tedious to get into. I decided to listen to it instead and it was great!

Kind Regards

Roy

Hi Roy, I love listening to my audible.com books on my iPod too. Also late at night when I can't fall asleep!
