Firmware update not available in Europe!?

I have just purchased the Sony PRS-505 and tried to update the firmware but the official Sony site says 'unavailable outside Canada and the USA.' This does not fill me with happiness. Any ideas where I can find an update, please? Oh! I bought the device online from Waterstones, England and I live in Sweden (but only speak English.)

As far as I know the UK 505's ship with the updated firmware already on them.

What firmware update are you expecting to find? There hasn't been a firmware update for a long time; your 505 ships with the latest firmware.

Hi Brian,
I am only following the advice given in some of the Sony blurb that I have found online. If you think I do not need it then I am happy to take your advice.

You should have version 1.2.something which is the latest and greatest for your device.

Thanks Bob. Reassuring words. I had been thinking that it was a mistake to go 'high tech' with my reading but I hope, if I perserver that it will be worth it.

I followed the download instructions and went to install the software but it showed me that I had a a more recent software version.
I am interested to discover that, even though it said 'only available in Canada and the USA', that I was able to access it, here in Sweden.
It is good to know anyway.

That's the latest US firmware (actually, that's 1.1.00.18040 and the latest US readers appear to have a slightly newer version than that, but anyway), while the OP's UK-sourced reader will have a V1.2 firmware, which is V1.1 + dd/mm/yyyy date format.

There is a V1.3, which appears to have some additional i18n features, but there's no official flasher for that (and if considering reflashing, I'd suspect that the OP might be better off to investigate the PRSCustomizer options first before trying to reflash the base image.)
