February's $1 book - Use of Weapons

It took me a while to get into this book, but once I was hooked, I read the last 3/4 in a day. Having said that, and not having reread the whole thing yet, I have some questions. Is anybody up for discussing a couple of points from it? And, is it ok to have spoilers in the discussion in general, or is that not kosher here?

i haven't read the book so can't discuss it with you, but if you like i can add a "spoilers" warning to the title of the thread, or you can use the spoiler tag (that's the tag that looks like an eye).

Oh, thank you - I didn't realize.

So obviously, the big reveal at the end is that
Spoiler:
the protagonist isn't Zakalwe, but rather his cousin Elethiomel.
The rest of the book takes on a different flavour in light of this, but I can't figure out why
Spoiler:
Staberinde, the battleship on which Darckense is killed and made into a chair, would have any special meaning to Tsoldrin - is he a character from their childhood as well?

I thought it was a great twist, along with a quite horrifying chair.

I managed to mess up the spoiler tags.

I thought it was great, too, and am rereading in light of the big twist - it's very skillfully written. I still don't see why the name of the ship on which, er, the chair was made, had meaning for Tsoldrin, when Zakalwe was setting up all these groups with the name Staberind to get his attention.
