pdf update for 505??
so, here's my dilemma...
i received the 505 last week. i love it. it's got a gorgeous screen. it handles well enough. however, i do enjoy pdfs. magazines...graphic novels...etc. i read regular ebooks...books...like anyone else here...anything w/ words and i'm there. but, i stumbled upon a 700. the pdf software is better. yes, yes...the screen got buggered up. i agree. it's still a lovely device. vastly more expensive considering what one can get the 505 for these days. now that there's some background...here's my question: do any of us know if there will be an update for the 505 that might allow a 700-like experience w. pdfs on the 505? is that even possible? combing through the forums it seems that is an oft inquired upon issue. just trying to decide if i'm going to exchange it for a 700. thanks, all! i'll happily accept ALL comments... please...i'm begging you! :-/ |

What particularly do you find better with the 700? I'm guessing the zoom, in which case, no, I doubt that'd be feasible on the 505. I'm not 100% sure, but I expect the 700 has a different (faster) processor, as well as the UI options only available with a touch screen.

in the handling of pdfs...the ability to zoom is invaluable for me. it takes several seconds...but, that's no skin off my nose.
being able to scroll through pages of a book is also another nice aspect. i very much enjoy the touch screen concept. it certainly adds another dimension. like everyone else, however...that it comes at the cost of the e-ink is a darned shame. i hope that answers your question. i would imagine you're correct about the processor speed. i can only imagine just how long a pause i'd have to endure for "zoom" on the 505's system. it's exciting to see what sony has learned, if anything, come august when new products start rolling off the line. |

As gwynevans said, I don't think pdf zoom on the 505 is possible (except maybe an external hack). They would have to map a physical key to that function and don't see one available. Most pdf ebooks (without pictures/charts/graphs) I've tried work fine using the 3 font sizes.
