Hello from Dubai

Hi there,

I am David, from Belgium, but I live in Dubai and work in the Middle-East on the oil rigs. Considering that the price of paper books here is horrendous and that I am tired of lugging my library with me when I go to work, I think an e-book reader is in order. I just spent several hours reading and searching this forum, and I think I have decided for a Hanlin V3. I have a few noob questions, that I will post in the appropriate forum right now.

Hello and welcome to Mobile Read. I worked with KBR and spent some time in Dubai myself.

Hi daviddem and welcome to the Forum. I have a Sony 505 and like it a lot. Be sure and let us know what you finally decide,

As I said in another thread, I went for the Hanlin V3. I do find the Sony 505 very sexy and well priced, but I dislike the "proprietary" side of it. Although I know it can be easily worked around, I wished to support a more open approach.

Hi Tarun,

Yes I bought a Hanlin v3 (EZReader in the US, or BeBook in Western Europe). I am running it with the OpenInkPot firmware, and am very happy with it. I have no firsthand experience of other e-ink readers, so I can't really compare. I took the Hanlin because I do not wish to support the proprietary approach of Sony and the Kindle.

As far as I know, no e-ink ebook reader is available in the UAE. Just order online in the US or Europe and have it shipped via Aramex shop & ship, Google Checkout or directly to you if the seller does international orders.
