Help!
alright, everyone, I got a plea for help from a newbie. I told her how helpful everyone is and that no one would be rude. Can you answer her question? I know you can!
JenPen1 I am a real newbie at forums. And I'm finding it hard to find where to ask my questions. I can't seem to find something that says 'start post here' so I am just sort of butting in off topic. Sorry! This is what is happening. I have had my Sony PRS505 for a few weeks and am listening to a book, and can't turn the audio off. If I turn the reader off, it's fine but as soon as I turn the reader on again and plug in my ear bud, I realize that the audio is still on. I've pressed every button to try and turn it off, and sometimes I'm successful with the big round button (the 'enter' button) and other times that doesn't work. Help me please. I'm sure it's something very basic and I'll probably want to kick myself when I get the answer. Thanks in advance for any help on this topic. |

Short of removing all audio media from your reader, or resetting it, I don't think you can stop it; you can only pause it. (Though from what I've heard, it doesn't use extra battery when paused, so it's as good as stopping it.)
Press Menu three times to return to the Main Menu, go into Audio, then use the joypad to select "Now Playing" and press Enter (circular button in middle of joypad) to pause playback. Or at least I think that's what you do. I just got mine today! Last edited by frabjous; 02-20-2009 at 12:10 PM. |

Hello JenPen1,
To start a new thread of your own, go to the forum that you want to post in. Then click the "new thread" button which is just above the blue bar. |

When you are in the forum and see the list of message, at the top of the list there is a blue "menu" bar. Right above that on the left corner is a little blue box/link that says "New Thread". that is how you start a new post/thread. Give it a try in the introduce yourself forum if you haven't already figured it out by now. BOb |

JenPen1, it's been too long since I've worked with my Sony PRS-500 and I never listened to music. However there was/were thread(s) early on about this issue on the 500. I seem to remember that there was a way to turn off the audio but may be mistaken. It was probably back in fall of 2006(??) & may not apply to the later Sony versions. (That's too long ago for my old mind.)
You might try doing a search (it's in the far upper right of each screen) on music. You'll probably get a lot of hits and as far as I know, you cannot do Boolean searches, e.g. searching on Music & Sony. Not to mods; (It would be really nice to be able to do Boolean searches.) P.S. NatCh was around back then & I think had/has a PRS-500 and may remember. Last edited by slayda; 02-20-2009 at 08:57 PM. |

Thanks everyone for all your help. I guess I was looking for an easy way to turn the audio off, but I will just have to go the few extra steps to stop it. I usually read my books, but I borrow some from the library and they are mostly in a format that I can't use or in mp3 format.
And thank you BOb for your input on helping me find my way around the forum. I think I have finally figured it out. ![]() |

It looks like you can do Boolean searches in the Advanced Search window. Searching for "conan doyle" produces hits mentioning "Irving Bacheller". Searching for "conan doyle not bacheller" removes the bacheller items. |
