For all of you wordsmiths... a little help?

My 10 year-old daughter and I were playing a game where you start with a word (5 letters or longer and not allowing proper nouns) and the next person has to follow with a word that begins with the last letter of the previous word.

About 100 words later, we were stumped, as we were trying to end up using every letter of the alphabet. But we couldn't come up with any words within the guidelines that ended in "j, q, u or v". Could you help us out?

Zulu could be either a proper noun or an adjective, so it fits the rules. Have fun!

Best choice for J seems to be gannouj, as in "baba gannouj"

U has more choices, because there are French imports: portmanteau, bayou, caribou... lots more.

V is more difficult; I'm not sure how many of the words given here are considered legit. Leitmotiv and improv strike me as the most likely acceptable ones.

Wasn't 'j' one of the last (or the last) letter to become part of the English/Roman alphabet? I seem to remember that it didn't appear in classical Latin (I didn't pay as much attention as I should have in my years of latin at school...).

Those are great websites! (not that I want any help when I do my Sunday crossword puzzles)

After reading bayou and caribou, I thought of "plateau, chateau & snafu"! I knew there would be ones that I'd wished I thought of!!
