Thumbs down Constantly Seizing Up PRS-505

I have had it! I spend more time rebooting, resetting, turning on, turning off my PRS-505 than I do reading anything on it. I don't know where to begin so I'll just say that one guaranteed freeze comes at the end of each chapter. Get to that page and then nothing works. So it's reset time, followed by powering down followed by endless more resets and powering up until, if I'm lucky, it might finally work. At the least, though, it's 10-15 minutes of this futzing about before I might get lucky.

One other thing: plug it into my PC and the PC doesn't recognize it, it doesn't show in My Computer and doesn't show in eBook Library. Is it a duff file? Who knows? It's the first book I've tried to read and if it causes this much grief, then I say stuff it!

Any last chance ideas out there? Otherwise, it's in the bin and back to paper.

Have you called Sony support? The Reader has a 1 year warranty. Your unit should not be doing this.

Is it freezing on one particular book? And for it not being recognized, are you using the USB cord that came with the unit?

Well... that would be a waste. It sounds like something is wrong with it. Perhaps the battery connections are loose or something.

As lilac says, call Sony support, get it fixed/replaced under warranty.

Is it only one book that is causing you trouble? Have you tried deleting that book and reading something else? (If you have the latest firmware on your device, you can delete the book from the utilities menu within the book.)

I hope you can get to the bottom of your problem--it does sound like either a faulty file or a faulty device.

Good luck!

Another thought is that the memory is corrupted. Try to run a chkdsk on it. I think you can also reformat it... but I can't remember if that is ok to do on the Sony... so many devices to keep track of when helping people.

IIRC there is an option in the settings to format the memory. A hard reset might help too, hard to say.

Ah thanks. But, he did say in his message he has done multiple resets/reboots etc. So, I assumed he has done a hard reset.

Mine started acting weirdly the other week and copying the books off and reformatting the reader from the readers menu then putting the books back on seems to have fixed it.

What's a hard reset? Is that the same as sticking a paperclip into the little reset hole in the back? If so, I have done that many times. Also, I am using the supplied USB cable which does charge the eReader. But the eReader continues not to register either in my eBook Library nor does it register as a drive in Windows Explorer.
